Jesus Calling

Discernment - A False Jesus

For false christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. - Matthew 24:24

One of the mistakes we make is to look for false christs by looking for someone claiming to be Jesus, and as result we miss the problem. Someone does not need to claim they are Jesus in order to be a false christ. The claim does not even need to involve a real person. In most cases the false Christ is an imaginary Christ that is presented in a false prophet's teaching. Jesus Calling is the perfect example of this. The Jesus of Jesus Calling does not exist. He is a creation of Sarah Young's imagination, but He is no less a false christ.

Also, notice that scripture says "false christ." The word "christ" is a title that means messiah, or in English "savior." There are prophecies Matthew (and Mark) telling us that many false saviors and prophets will arise. This may include a false Jesus, as well as anyone or anything that people turn to as their savior (money, world possessions, the government, power, etc.).

And then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ’; or, ‘Behold, He is there’; do not believe him; for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect. - Mark 13:21-22

How do you spot a false Jesus? Or a false christ (savior)?

1. If they have any sin in their life, past or present, they are a false christ. The true Jesus Christ is perfect, and sinless. What is sin? It is to do, or say anything that is not 100% in accordance with the character of God as described in scripture.

2. If they teach or say anything that is not in 100% perfect agreement with scripture, they are a false christ. God does not change. And that means He does not change scripture.

3. If they glorify you instead of God, they are a false christ. For example, if the teaching is about you, and what you can do for God, you are dealing with a false christ.

4. If the teaching is a "new" teaching, meaning God is doing a new thing, they are a false christ.

For I, the Lord, do not change; - Malachi 3:6
