The first lesson I learned when I became a pastor was that pastors
are BUSY. Really busy... overwhelmed in fact. Pastors do not have time
to read every book that makes the best seller list.
The result is that many times pastors may rely on what others have
told them about a devotional book. So if they've heard from a number
of people that a book, such as "Jesus Calling," has
been helpful, they may recommend it to other people.
Yes, there are also lazy pastors, pastors who do not like to read,
pastors who don't care, and even pastors who are not Christians. Remember
the Pharisee's of Jesus' day looked good to the world on the outside,
but on the inside they were dead... whitewashed tombs in Jesus' words.
But, in most cases your pastor probably just made a mistake. Pastors
are not perfect. Pastors can make mistakes... just like you do.

Love is patient, love is kind and is not
jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly;
it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account
a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices
with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things. -- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
